Sure-Foot Stair Treads for Worker Safety

Sure-Foot Stair Treads from Anderson-Bolds

Fiberglass FRP Step Covers Improve Worker Safety

Problem:

Outdoor Stairway Poses High Slip-and-Fall Risk to Employees

Worker safety is a key responsibility for any employer, but even more so in the manufacturing industry. Whether they are clocked-in, on a break or headed home, employee care is a top priority for building design and maintenance.
When the safety management team at an aerospace company became concerned about a set of outdoor stairs used by staff, they began to research preventative solutions.
With an estimated 130+ workers using these steps each day, the stairway began to show signs of wear. The metal, open-grated steps were rusting in areas where the paint had chipped. Exposed to the elements, the stairs would often get wet and slick in the inclement weather.
Taking a proactive approach, the manufacturer reached out to Sure-Foot, seeking an anti-slip solution that would allow their workers to navigate the stairway securely in all types of weather.

Solution:

Flexible Fiberglass Step Covers Eliminate Hazardous Stairway Conditions

Sure-Foot first walked through a discovery process with the manufacturer, collecting facts on the potential project. After assessing the data, including the stairway location, step dimensions, traffic type and traffic volume, the Sure-Foot team recommended the best solution.
Based on the customer’s information, Sure-Foot suggested its Fiberglass FRP step covers with landing panels located in the middle and at the top of the stairwell. The product used was the 11.75” anti-slip step cover in a medium grit with a yellow nose and a black back.
Our fiberglass product was the best choice for this application because metal stair covers are too rigid, and rubber isn't suited for long-term use in outdoor environments. The flexibility of these fiberglass step covers allows them to flex with the open grated steps, making them the perfect solution in this case.

Implementation

Designing Custom Anti-Slip, Fiberglass Step Covers

Sure-Foot’s non-slip fiberglass FRP step covers are created to handle the elements no matter the amount of foot traffic.
A custom fiberglass solution was created to the exact specifications of the 27-step stairwell. The step cover design featured a yellow nose to call attention to the steps edge. The solution was delivered to the facility ready for installation using bolt grate clips for fastening.

Results

Non-Slip Stairway Solution Offers Quick and Easy Installation for Customer

The customer was thrilled with the ease and speed of installation, providing before and after photos to show the incredible improvement.
The brightly colored yellow edge allows for a better level of safety as employees quickly use the steps to come and go from the facility. The grit step covers now provide better grip and footing for workers even during poor weather conditions.

60 AMP Mercury Contactors from MDI

MDI 60 AMP Mercury Contactors for Industry from Anderson-Bolds

BUY MDI Mercury Contactors HERE

Description
MERCURY TO METAL CONTACTOR
The mercury relays (mercury contactors) load terminals are isolated from each other by the glass in the hermetic seal. "The plunger assembly", which includes the ceramic insulator, the magnetic sleeve and related parts, floats on the mercury pool. When the coil is powered causing a magnetic field, the plunger assembly is pulled down into the mercury pool which is in turn displaced and moved up to make contact with the electrode, closing the circuit between the top and bottom load terminal, which is connected to the stainless steel can.
To make the unit function as a "Hybrid" time delay, we add a solid state circuit to the coil to delay the power to the coil.
For constant duty applications, a return spring is used in place of the buffer spring.
Contact the factory.
The MDI 60 amp contractors come in 1,2,3 and 4 pole versions and coil voltages can be 6, 12,24,48, 120 volts DC and 24, 120, 240, 277, 480 and 600 volts AC. Normally open contractors are the most common, close on energization. Normally closed are also available. Resistive loads are the more common type of loads but the "H" designated contactors are for inductive loads (with inrush currents).

During Repeat Cycle operation the ATC 422AR cycle ON and OFF repeatedly, allowing periodic cycling of a load. Two knobs are available to individually adjust the ON-time and the OFF-time. The ATC  422AR can be configured with either the relay being energized during the first timing period or de-energized during the first timing period.

The ATC 422AR have 6 selectable timing ranges available for both ON-time and OFF-time periods. The ranges are 1 and 10 SEC/MIN/HRS dip switch selectable. Having this flexibility allows for a load to be energized for a brief time over a cycle that lasts up to 10 hours. This is deal for lubrication or other maintenance functins that must occur each shift or day during a plant operation.

The ATC 422AR 1/16 DIN housing is compact, and designed for panel mounting. The timer is mounted in an 8-pin round socket. The front of the ATC 422AR features 2 knobs. One knob is used to set the ON-time and the other knob is used to set the OFF-time for the timer’s cycle. The ATC  422AR is universal powered by 20 to 240 VAC or 12 to 240 VDC operation voltage.

The output of the ATC 422AR Flip-Flop timer has a DPDT mechanical relay which is rated for 10 amps @ 250 VAC resistive. The ATC 422AR can be ordered in a terminal option which is only available with 5 amp Relay output. The ATC  422’s have individual LED indicators for ON time and OFF time.
