Description
MERCURY TO METAL CONTACTOR
The mercury relays (mercury contactors) load terminals are isolated from each other by the glass in the hermetic seal. "The plunger assembly", which includes the ceramic insulator, the magnetic sleeve and related parts, floats on the mercury pool. When the coil is powered causing a magnetic field, the plunger assembly is pulled down into the mercury pool which is in turn displaced and moved up to make contact with the electrode, closing the circuit between the top and bottom load terminal, which is connected to the stainless steel can.
To make the unit function as a "Hybrid" time delay, we add a solid state circuit to the coil to delay the power to the coil.
For constant duty applications, a return spring is used in place of the buffer spring.

The MDI 60 amp contractors come in 1,2,3 and 4 pole versions and coil voltages can be 6, 12,24,48, 120 volts DC and 24, 120, 240, 277, 480 and 600 volts AC. Normally open contractors are the most common, close on energization. Normally closed are also available. Resistive loads are the more common type of loads but the "H" designated contactors are for inductive loads (with inrush currents).

Buy All MDI Contactors HERE.

Mercury Displacement Industries (MDI) Relays are all designed and built to meet the most exacting demands of industry. They have won their high place in the electrical field by doing the tough and tricky jobs that ordinary equipment could at best do in an uncertain manner. They have proved their ability to stand up under the most adverse conditions of temperature, dust and moisture, in all types of applications.

MDI 4100NO Relays - Note Dimensions below
MDI Four Pole Contactors are 10-1/8 Inches wide, 5-5/32 inches high and 2-11/16 wide.

The 100-AMP normally open contactors are designed and manufactured to high quality specifications and the contactors are commonly used in various heating, lighting, and many other industrial applications including high voltage ultraviolet type loads. The contacts are encased in hermetically sealed stainless steel tubes to provide reliable switching for millions of operations. MDI has manufactured this contactor since 1975. It is available in the single, two, three & four pole models.

MDI 35 Amp Mercury Contactors

Anderson-Bolds stocks MDI ( Mercury Displacement Industries ) Mercury Contactors / Relays.

Mercury Displacement Relays / Contactors are ideally suited for use with electric heaters or any other rapid switching application. We also carry the H Series for Inductive Loads. (See Other Blog) The below contactors are for 35 amp loads, single or three phase resistive loads. Part number with a -18 are the same as the below. The -18 was an option for a metal strap in lieu of plastic. The plastic is no longer available so all units are in a sense the -18 units.
